School captains participated in th 4th leadership workshop organized by the Education department at Tibetan reception  center in dharamsala .
workshop was for five days. school captains had the privilege to have the audience of H.H the 14th Dalai Lama at  the end of the day.
they also visited to Tibetan parliamentary offices at Gangchen Kyishong.

Celebrating His Holiness The Panchen Lama's Bithday

On April 25, students and staff members of Tibetan Children’s Village – Gopalpur under the initiative of ‘Phakay Danglang Tsokchung’ commemorated the 27th birthday of the 11th Panchen Lama Gedun Choekyi Nyima. Mr. Jampa Tenzin from Tibetan Library and Archives – CTA, has been the guest of honor and the program got started with offering of butter lamp before the portrait of the 10th Panchen Lama. Thereafter, the chief guest is requested to make a speech for the occasion. The guest of honor said on one hand, it gives us immense joy that HH the Dalai Lama was able to recognize the authentic reincarnation of the Panchen Lama. But this joy is undermined by the memory of the time when the young Panchen Lama and his family were taken into captivity by the Chinese authorities. It is a matter of great concern for all the Tibetans that the state of 11th Panchen Lama’s physical and mental health remains unknown till date. His very existence is in doubt since he became the youngest prisoner of conscience on May 17, 1995. He further said that the distinguished 10th Panchen Lama devoted his whole life to the welfare of the Tibetan people. On May 18, 1962, He presented Mao and other Chinese dignitaries the 70,000 Character Petition, a document elaborately explained the Tibetan people’s grievances and suggested measures to uplift from political repression. The petition also exposed the Chinese repressive policies against the Tibetans highlighting that Tibetans in Tibet do not enjoy basic human rights, and religious freedom. The experiences of sudden death of the 10th Panchen Lama and disappearance of current 11th Panchen Lama undoubtedly serve as strong testimony of the Chinese government’s conscious and deliberate efforts to control every aspects of the Tibetan way of life, which provoke the self immolations protests. And then, the 2nd edition of (བྱིས་པའི་ལྡུམ་རྭ།) was released by the Tibetan department of Junior Section. Children’s Literature Garden (བྱིས་པའི་ལྡུམ་རྭ།) is tri-monthly publication from the junior section under the editorship of Rev. Khenpo Ngodup Sonam. He is being assisted by Mr. Chungdak, the assistant headmaster and Miss. Yangtso, the Tibetan department head.
The celebration was followed by presentation of songs attributed to the 11th Panchen Lama by members of  ‘Phakay Danglang’.





Vitsit Of Machik's Family

Machik organization was non-profit organization based in Washington D.C. USA. The co-founder of Machik Dr. Losang Rabgey accompanied by her associates Tenzin Nangkyi have made to TCV School Gopalpur on the evening of April 20, 2016 to give a talk on ‘Machik’ organization and its related works to our students of classes X through XII. The Director and the Principal of the school were away for the management workshop being held at UTCV so, the arrangements for the talk was done by the senior section Headmaster Mr. Molam with the help of school captains and prefects.
Dr. Losang Rabgey gave amazing account of Machik’s foundation and its project works for Tibetan children inside Tibet. She was one of the founding members of Machik organization and the First Tibetan who holds PhD in Gender and Anthropology from the University of London School of Oriental and African studies. Dr. Losang Rabgey and her sister Dr. Tashi Rabgey co-founded Machik, whose mission is to incubate social innovation for Tibet. Dr. Lobsang was recognized by the National Geographic Society as one of the eight emerging Explorers from around the world for her innovative in gender equality and bridging cultural divides. She has been frequent public speaker at the Nobel Forum, Yale University, and Harvard University. Her current research interests include social entrepreneurship, women’s empowerment and conservation in Tibet. Machik organization started functioning with initial funding from her family income a way back 17 years ago. Machik has successfully started a ‘Chungba School’ at Lithang in Kham province – Tibet.
 Machik is seeing its fruition of years’ hard work at Chungba School.  Many of the former students from Chungba School are now found studying different courses at universities in Beijing and the US with academic excellence and some of them even found good placement after their graduation and working for the social cause in Tibet. For the last 17 years, they have been able to successfully start a mother-tongue based rural education program in Kham, scholarship program for girls, and young women in Amdo, and enrichment and mentorship programs for Tibetan youth across the plateau, and Machik’s various ongoing programs that promote capacity building, community development and social entrepreneurships at all levels of Tibetan society.
The strong message to our students from the founder of Machik organization was, an individual can do anything if one believes in oneself. So, have faith in yourself and go for it. The Tibetan Children’s Village Gopalpur extends our sincere ‘Thanks’ to the entire team of Dr. Rabgye la and Nangkyi la for their amazing and good job.


2016 Tibetan Elocution

Below class VIII inter-house Tibetan elocution contest was held on Tuesday, 18 April by the Tibetan department. There were three contestants from each house for the elocution contest; one contestant has to recite compulsory poetry piece provided by the Tibetan department, second participant has to make presentation of speech and the third contestant of the house has to go for dramatic extract presentation. The participants of the respective houses have done very good preparation on their parts and it was worth watching and also proven to be a source of inspiration for other students. After the actual contest, the floor was left open for the students sitting on the floor while the calculation is being done. It was a wonderful opportunity for other students to come on the stage and speak before the audience to acquire skill of speaking, removing public and stage fear. The final result of house standing in the contest is as follow: the first position was bagged by Nyatri House followed by second in Triral, and the third position went to Trisong and followed by fourth in Songsten. From the speech section, the individual first position was bagged by Master Lobsang Tashi. From the poetry section we have Miss Dolkar Lhamo of VII D who was adjudged as the best poetry reciter and from dramatic section the best presenter went to Palden of VI D from Trisong. 


Englsih Quiz 2016

The first literary contest (English Quiz) was held on April 15, 2016 as per schedule. There were 19 participants in all from classes VII through XII. The topics for the quiz were announced a week before the actual contest was held. The quiz was held on the following topics: 1) Grammar 2) Books and Authors 3) Audiovisual round 4) Rapid Fire round among the following teams; team One Direction, team Little Mix, team Pink Floyd, team Vamps, team Green Day and team Fifth Harmony.
For each topic, there were different quiz masters. Grammar round was taken up by Miss. Yangchen, Books and Authors round by Mrs. Yangkyi, Audiovisual round by Mr. Jigdel and the Rapid Fire round by Mrs. Pasang Tsamchoe. Students on the floor showed interest in the English quiz especially in the rapid fire round. This kind of literary activity evokes learning spirit amongst the students and many students got informed and exposed to different arena of competition even when they were not directly involved in the quiz contest.  The winners were awarded prizes by the school principal.

class XI Reporting

Class XI Reporting
Students joining for + one Arts have reported TCV School Gopalpur on April 11, 2016 as per instructions given to them in advance. They were asked to join lately due to accommodation problem as the outgoing class XII students are still yet to leave the school. Furthermore, school has to organize the graduation day and farewell dinner party to the outgoing XII students. Till date there were 164 students who joined in class XI from Upper TCV, TCV Chauntra, Lower TCV and TCV Bylakuppe. Some students came from SOS Pokhara, Nepal, CST and Petoen schools.  A welcome tea party was organized on the evening of April 14 with members from Advisory Committee and Management Committee. A brief introduction of members of two committees along with school captains and prefects was done by the school Principal. On 16 April the newly joined class XI students were apprised of school discipline by the members of Advisory committee, so that they know the rules and regulations of the school in advance and there is no breach of school discipline by them knowingly or unknowingly and at the same time school authorities expect good discipline from them in the coming months. The members wished them for achieving excellence in their academic performance as well.

Senior Section Tibet Our Country Project Display


A special meeting was convened by the senior section Headmaster on March 12 during the recess in the staff room to discuss on how to go planning about Tibet Our Country Project for this year. It was resolved in the meeting to continue with the same theme as last year’s. Basically the topics for Tibet Our Country Project have already been discussed in the last screening meeting held just before the close of school for winter vacation.

Display of Tibet Country Project
The senior section students and staff members were engaged in the Tibet Our Country Project for about a month. In order to do the project work, the school followed the 7th period time table from March 14 to April 13. Students of respective classes received guidance and help from their class and Tibetan subject teachers. After having worked on the project, an appointed day (April 13, Wednesday) was fixed for the display of their work done and class wise visitation was arranged to get explanation of the project work by different classes to the visiting students from VII through XII.
 

Special Tibetan Coaching Classes


Special Tibetan coaching classes started with the newly admitted students coming from far off places and for non-Tibetan students. These students don’t have Tibetan background and had to Head start. Two sessions of subject teachers meetings of class VII & VIII were held to sort out the students who don’ t know Tibetan language at all and find the remedial solutions from the subject teachers’ end and from the administrative measures to be taken to make the students to come at par with the main stream. It was resolved that Mr. Tsangdor the assistant librarian will take the special responsibility to teach the students who are beginners from 4pm – 5pm and Mr. Tsangdor will be exempted from the first period attendance. Secondly, we request the subject teachers to shoulder their responsibility to ensure extra-coaching classes leaving the matter at their discretion and thirdly, the students from Language Preservation (ཕ་སྐད་དང་བླངས་) will be asked to take some coaching classes for the beginners after the school hour. Workshop on Umay-lam


A workshop on Umay-lam was being held here in our school from March 13to March 18, 2016 for our students of class XII and X. Basically the workshop was meant to bring awareness on Umay-lam (Middle Way Approach) the policy being adopted and followed by the Central Tibetan Administration – Dharamsala. The total number of participants in the workshop is forty.  The Department of Information and International Relation (DIIR) of the Central Tibetan Administration – Dharamsala, has conducted Middle Way Approach awareness program being sponsored by Norwaegian Church Aid Funding Assistance.

The proposed program aims to significantly improve the effectiveness of advocacy and communication strategies to increase public awareness and support for the Middle Way Approach as the most viable, long lasting and feasible solution to address the urgency of the situation inside Tibet. This policy seeks to bring a final resolution to the deteriorating situation in terms of basic human, political, socio-economic and cultural rights of Tibetans inside Tibet. This approach attempts to bring the Tibetans and Chinese to a common platform that promotes dialogue and peaceful methods of conflict resolution and if the Middle Way Approach succeeds it will help contribute to the world peace as well. The workshop facilators are Miss. Tenzin Jamchen, Miss. Kalden Tsomo and Miss. Tenzin Tashi and the staff members and students of TCV School Gopalpur extend our sincere thanks to the DIIR for the workshop.

Special Prayer


A special prayer was held from March 14 to March 18 in the school for the quick recovery of His Holiness from His illness and longevity of His life. The prayer was arranged in the school prayer hall and held from 7pm to 8pm. With full dedication staff members of TCV Gopalpur are coming together every evening for the prayer.

Tibetan National Uprising Day


On the 57th anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day, the 10th March, the four sections of class XII students accompanied by the class teachers went to Tsuklha-khang to attend the official function organized by Central Tibetan Administration. The school arranged four buses for ongoing journey to Dharamsala and students had to bear the expenses of the return journey by themselves. Our students not just attended the official function, but had also taken active participation in the programs initiated by CTA and non-governmental organizations. Students’ spirits were running high and shouted out their slogans for the genuine cause of Tibet and Tibetans. It was the day for every Tibetan to rise against the Chinese brutal policies being implemented on Tibetans inside Tibet and pay respect to the Tibetan martyrs who made supreme sacrifices in the recent days.
