World Tuberculosis Day

In order to build awareness about the global epidemic of tuberculosis and efforts to eliminate the disease, TCV School Gopalpur observed the World Tuberculosis Day in association with Two Doctors from Delek Hospital. March 24 commemorates the day in 1882 when Dr Robert Koch astounded the scientific community by announcing to a small group of scientists at the University of Berlin’s Institute of Hygiene that he had discovered the cause of tuberculosis, the TB bacillus. With Tuberculosis (TB) continuing to be a major public health problem accounting for substantial morbidity and mortality across the world, Delek Hospital under the Department of Health, CTA took out awareness program in the school on the occasion of World TB Day. Dr. Tsundu highlighted the causation of TB, different lines of TB and their remedial measures through diagnosis and medication. Furthermore he says, the percentage of TB patient in the Tibetan community is so high and it is mainly due to overcrowding, mobility and compassionate nature of Tibetans (don’t mind mixing with TB patients). We were informed that today tuberculosis causes the deaths of about 1.7 million people each year, mostly in the Third World.
